Commonsense Isn't So Common

The Gazette published an article yesterday about a group of Université de Montréal students who painted themselves black and shouted out "Smoke some weed! Yeah mon!" A spokesperson for the school said the students were paying tribute to Usain Bolt, the world's fastest runner, who is Jamaican. "They certainly didn't want to offend anyone, it was really in the spirit of the Olympics."

Really? Really??? Who came up with this brilliant idea? "I know! To honor a Jamaican athlete, let's put on blackface, which will remind people of the racism black people have suffered and then let's shout out stereotypes that are equally offensive!" And then there were actually people who were like "Yeah! Awesome!"
C'mon people! Use some commonsense! Wouldn't just putting the make-up on cause you to stop for even a minute?
I have no doubt that they weren't intending any offense because they went out in public for all the world to see! I don't think they were purposefully being racist but they are definitely guilty of ignorance. They should be ashamed.
