Words are simply not adequate to describe how wonderful our night away was.
I dropped Jr off at my MIL's house Friday after she got home from work. After some hurried, last minute instructions, I took her from my MIL and told Jr to give mama a kiss goodbye. My heart broke just a little when she started waving goodbye to her Teta instead as if she thought she was going home now.
Once I left I ended up in horrendous rush hour traffic. I kept cracking my neck, side to side, to make sure I didn't end up with a stiff neck and a bad headache. I had never been to this inn before so I was also listening closely to my GPS.
Eventually I made it out of the city, alleluia. Then the GPS took me on some back roads, which made me a bit nervous because the last time it did that, hubby and I went to the wrong church for a funeral in the boonies and ended up being very late.
Thankfully, it knew what it was doing and I arrived just as dinner was supposed to start. Unfortunately, the parking lot was full and it was awhile before someone from the inn came out and directed the waiting cars to a field adjacent to the lot. Yup, my car was right next to the horses and the cows!
Despite being dinnertime, cocktails were still in full swing. Hubby and I stood with his employees and their wives elbow-to-elbow and back-to-back with plenty of strangers on a small terrace. As it turns out, one of the wives is originally from the States and so we spoke in English with each other, both of us, I think, relieved that we had found someone to speak with in our mother tongue.
It's very bizarre watching your husband in his "work mode", especially when his employees are 10-20 years older than him. But the way he interacts with them you'd think he was 50. It was sort of like getting a preview of what he's going to be like in his old age. It's also bizarre watching men 10-20 years older than my hubby suck up to him. Everyone wanted to talk to him, get his opinion, sit next to him, etc. Hubby asked one of them to pick out the wine for the table since hubby is no wine connoisseur and so he did, but not before asking hubby if the price was all right (since the company was paying) and then thanking him for buying the wine (even though the company was paying). It was hard to wrap my mind around. This is HUBBY after all. Hubby who burps, plays NHL 2011 and likes Twilight!
Anyhow, by the time everyone went home it was after 10pm. We went to our room overlooking the water with a jacuzzi and fireplace, cracked open the champagne we had received as a gift when Jr was born, and went to town. It was the most fun we had together and also the latest we had stayed up in a long time. The next morning we had a delicious breakfast and then headed back to pick up Jr, who was apparently a complete angel the entire time.
I couldn't have planned it better myself.
Love it!!
