Golf, Dinner and...

Today hubby is playing in a golf tournament for work (hard work, I know!). Afterward there is a dinner. Normally he would come home after the tournament but this time I said I would join him for the dinner. He always asks me if I want to go to the dinner but I've always said 'no'. Since this is the first occasion for me to meet some of his employees I thought I should go. I'm really not a people person and making small talk is definitely not one of my favorite things to do. On top of that his employees are mostly "pure laine" Quebecois and when they speak French it's almost incomprehensible to me. They speak so fast and really don't enunciate. But ever since hubby started having employees rather than being an employee, I've admitted to myself that I've got to be a "trophy wife". Not in the typical sense (after all I'm not drop dead gorgeous with big boobs -- okay I've got boobs but that's about it) but in the sense that I can help his career and more importantly help his work relationships. So I'll schmooze with his employees' wives and hopefully make a good impression because we all know that a happy wife is a happy life and if she likes me and my hubby she'll be that much happier about her hubby working for my hubby. And then her hubby will work that much harder for my hubby. Behind every man is a fabulous woman.. or something like that.

The bigger appeal, however, was the offer to stay overnight at the inn for free. My family's motto is If It's Free, It's For Me. We should get a coat of arms made or something. Since my hubby is an immigrant, that's his motto too. (That's a joke, by the way. Well, it's funny cause it's true.) We asked hubby's parents to take Jr for the night and they accepted. I'm nervous about it, not because I think anything will go wrong, but because she's never slept over there before. I think I'll be nervous for every "first thing" she does, no matter how banal! Anyway, I'm dropping her off this afternoon when my MIL gets home from work and then driving out to meet hubby at the inn.

In the meantime I'll be packing and beautifying myself for the dinner. First rule of thumb for a boss' wife: don't look like a hobo or a SAHM!
