Jr continues to have temper tantrums. Yesterday she had one in my arms and she hit me with both hands in the face. Unfortunately, the rest of the day didn't get much better. I'm sure her teething has something to do with it. The only difference between teething now and teething a few months ago is that she can better express her pain and frustrations -- through hitting and throwing herself on the floor. The latest is crying until she makes herself cough or even throw up. That scared the hell out of me. It was a good lesson for me, though. Don't give a kid food in the hopes of stopping a temper tantrum that's already started. Chances are the hullabaloo is already too far gone for food to work and they'll just end up gagging on whatever you've given them or worse, throwing it up, like Jr did.
Thankfully, we had a play date yesterday with Little Monster. While being somewhere else and being with other people didn't stop the tantrums, they were probably a lot better than they would have been if we had been at home alone. It was actually kind of funny because eventually Little Monster got fed up of Jr's whining. At first she tried hugging Jr and "talking" to her. When that didn't work she started yelling when Jr started crying. Jr would stop crying and look at Little Monster, confused. Then Little Monster would stop yelling and Jr would start crying again. Repeat. I'm grateful that M, Little Monster's mom, was completely cool about my princess' tantrums.
On the way home Jr started smelling really bad. It was one of those odors that just permeates the entire car. I knew my mom had the day off from work so I decided to stop by and change Jr's diaper. Surprisingly, there was no poop -- it had just been the nastiest fart I've ever smelled. So we visited with Gramma for awhile and Jr was as right as rain. It's amazing to me that for the most part, the grandkids just know not to pull crap with my parents. Why is that? It's not like I give in to her tantrums (okay for the most part). So why does she do it with me but almost no one else??
This morning was more of the same. It gets to the point where I don't know what to do with her so I put her in her crib and hope she'll nap and wake up feeling better, even if she hasn't been awake for that long. Maybe she woke up on the wrong side of the crib? Who knows! Sometimes she just hangs out in her crib for an hour, babbling. It's like she needs quiet time alone. Other times she'll fall asleep almost right away.
Oh Jr, what am I going to do with you?
