The Server Resurfaces

I just realized that I forgot to blog today! I meant to and I knew some of what I was going to say but it slipped my mind. So here it is, later than usual.

Yesterday I served at church for the first time in over a year. The last time I served, I think I was about 8 months pregnant! I still remember the day a man approached me after Mass and asked me when I was going to stop serving because it looked awfully uncomfortable for me to carry the cross and also kneel on the stairs up to the altar. It didn't feel awful but I figured if this guy was saying it, I'm sure a lot of people were thinking it.

I was very happy to be proclaiming the word of God again but VERY NERVOUS. Just ask hubby. We were running late and I was practically having an anxiety attack on the way to church. By the time I reached the front doors I was in a panic. I didn't have time to help the other server prepare or to go over my reading one more time. I slipped into my robe and practically ran to the back of the church where we process from.

All in all, it was a positive experience. My reading went well and I especially enjoy the psalm. While there was some fumbling where the gifts were concerned (I wasn't there to help the other server receive the water and the wine), it went rather smoothly. The only real drawback was serving with someone other than my hubby. It's not that I dislike the other servers, it's just that it's a special time for hubby and I, to serve together. But it was nice to see hubby and Jr in the pew together and come up for communion together -- it made my heart swell.

Jr was as good as gold with hubby, of course. When hubby served and I sat with Jr, she practically fussed every moment. She wanted to get on the floor, she wanted to eat, she didn't want to eat, she wanted her frog, she didn't want her frog (which she let me know by throwing it into the pew in front of us and hitting the person sitting there). But with daddy, Jr is a little princess!

Anyhow, I'm glad I've climbed back in the saddle. It was also nice to hear the deacon say it was good seeing me up on the altar again.

On a super positive note, the deacon met someone who's organization would be willing to donate the labor and supplies to give our church a new roof! It seems too good to be true! Will keep you updated.
