Dental Horrors

This morning I went to the dentist. Oh my word, I can't remember the last time I left the dentist with my gums hurting so much. The hygienist who cleaned my teeth was nice but she wasn't gentle at all! I've managed to get the same hygienist every visit except this year. My hubby warned me he had a painful experience with her but I was hoping she had had a bad day or something with him. Unfortunately, no! The good news is I only had one cavity, despite almost no dental care since Jr. was born. I used to be good about my teeth: flossing, brushing, mouthwash, the whole nine yards. The last time I went the hygienist even complimented me on my good dental care, which had never happened before. But when Jr. was born it was a good day when I managed to brush my teeth, never mind flossing! In those first few days I'm not even sure I did that! I also have a bite guard because I grind my teeth in my sleep. The dentist said he had never seen someone with so much damage! I tend to do it harder when I'm stressed. One morning I woke up to discover I had actually bitten off a piece of my bite guard. Anyhow, as you can imagine, I stopped wearing my bite guard when Jr. was born. In the meantime, my teeth shifted so by the time I was ready to wear it again it didn't fit. So that was one more thing I had to get fixed. I feel better that my teeth are clean and my bite guard is wearable. Just that filling in two weeks and I'm all good! My only complaint, besides the butchery that was my cleaning, is that they were showing animal kingdom stuff on the TV while I was getting worked on. I hate watching that stuff. Sure, the babies being born is cute but the only other really interesting thing that animals do is kill other animals. I had to look away when the komodo dragons were waiting while the buffalo, stuck in the mud, weakened enough for them to eat him. Because, the narrator explained, the buffalo could give one last deathly kick! It was awful...
