What a weekend!
My weekend actually started Friday afternoon when hubby took Jr and I to lunch. Definitely one of the perks of working close to home. It doesn't happen very often but every once in awhile he'll have the time and will be nearby at lunchtime. Jr and I happened to be at Walmart when he called so I wasn't prepared with a bib. We went anyway and Jr ate Nutella pancakes. She was covered from head to almost toe. She would give anyone who walked by a big chocolatey grin and they couldn't help but smile back.
Saturday we had our friends over to celebrate someone's 30th birthday. We were warned by his girlfriend that he was depressed but I was surprised how truly and genuinely miserable he seemed at the idea of turning 30. When we asked him why he listed a bunch of things but the one that struck me was "getting closer to death". Considering people generally live to be around 80 these days, I don't see 50 more years of living to be so short! But to each their own.
My parents took Jr for a sleepover, which was great. All of our friends said they were disappointed they didn't get to see her and that they hoped next time she would be here. It's all well and good for them to say that because they don't have to worry about her being cranky and getting her fed and making sure she doesn't throw her food at the restaurant and making sure she gets to bed at a reasonable hour and that she stays asleep!
For hubby and I it was pure heaven getting a break. Every so often you need to disconnect from being a parent. They're always at the back of your mind but you need the luxury of not worrying about where they are and what they're doing. We spent most of the night outside on our small deck with wine glasses, a shisha pipe and cake. There's no way she would have sat quietly in someone's lap for all that time.
Sunday we picked Jr up from my parents and drove to hubby's parents' cottage. It was a lazy afternoon of good food and blowing bubbles on the deck for Jr. Then it was back to the city where Jr and I went to bed almost as soon as we finished dinner.
Yesterday hubby helped our friends with renos in their house while Jr and I visited with my parents for a bit and then home for dinner and bed. I tried to go to bed early but when hubby came home at around 9:30pm, he entered our room and turned on the lights. He thought I was downstairs watching TV! I was pretty grumpy but all was forgiven when he offered to spoon -- something he does very rarely.
And now it's the start of yet another week. I can't believe July is almost upon us! Where does the time go???
