Yesterday Jr.'s aunt, Malt_Soda, and her cousin, Jelly Bean, came over for a play date. It was nice hosting someone at my house for a change. When we three sisters used to get together with our kids we usually went to Little Jo's house because she had things to do for all ages, more importantly for my 3 year old niece. Since Jelly Bean is just 5 weeks older than Jr., I had plenty for the two of them to do.
They are hilarious together. My sister and I just kind of put them on the floor facing each other and watch what they do. It usually involves hair pulling, clothes grabbing and pokes in the eye. Neither of them seem really phased by it. The trouble usually starts when they steal toys from each other.
It's really interesting to see them side by side. Bean is blonde with milky white skin, while Jr. is a brunette with a darker tone to her skin. They both have blue eyes, which is surprising given hubby and I both have brown eyes. I guess I have my mom to thank for Jr.'s baby blues!
They are also very different in character. Jr. is very sensitive. When Bean hurt herself and started crying, Jr. joined right in. She's also very lovey -- lots of hugs and kisses and being close to you. Bean is very independent, not afraid to go off by herself and explore and get in trouble! (That was another good reason to have them over -- Bean showed me all the places I now have to baby proof!) She's a very happy baby. Many times she would start laughing and would look over at Jr. as if to say, "Isn't life great??" Jr. would just look at me solemnly wondering what was going on.
Whenever Malt_Soda and I go somewhere together and people find out we're sisters, they usually make a comment like, "Ohhh!! Your daughters are going to be the best of friends!" I don't know that that's a guarantee but I do hope so. And if not, at least we can always look back on these days with a smile.
