Every night as I settle down for bed I think to myself, Maybe this will be the night she sleeps or I bet she'll be up every 2 hours. Last night was no exception. My husband and I watched Cars 2 (more about that later) and were reading in our bed by 9:30pm. I decided to stay up until 10:15 because that's usually the time our baby wakes up to have her soother put in. 10:15 passed and I decided to go to bed, thinking that as soon as I had settled into a deep sleep, she would undoubtedly wake up. That's just the way these things work, right? Well! I didn't hear from her until 2am! Great! Fantastic! Here comes the tricky part. Once she gets up for a feeding in the middle of the night, she will usually wake up 2 hours later and then again 2 hours after that. I don't know why. The first time one of us will get up to put her soother in and the second time I'll nurse her. Last night she didn't wake up again until quarter to 6! I couldn't believe it. My husband got up and was about to go put her soother in but I told him she only got up once last night so I was going to nurse her. And to add icing on the cake, she then went back to sleep until quarter to 9! I'm pretty sure this is the most sleep I've gotten since she was born, barring the one time she slept from 11pm to 6am on Mother's Day. Now the question is: how do we ensure a repeat performance??
Now. Cars 2. Hubby and I watched Cars before baby was born and we thought it entertaining. So we watched the sequel, which, while entertaining was a bit too "adult" for my tastes. It had a James Bond-type plot to it, complete with a torture scene. The car's engine is revved and his motor fuel boiled until he explodes. I know it was only a car but you're supposed to care about the characters, right? They're given faces and voices to make them seem more human, right? So why would you want a child to watch a character, cartoon or not, get tortured? I don't get it. I was unpleasantly surprised. I can appreciate that cartoons are no longer made with just kids in mind. The creators want to entertain mom and dad, too. Most of the time that type of script goes right over kids' heads. I can think of quite a few movies I watched as a kid, not understanding what was going on at all. Re-watching them as an adult I thought, Ohhh... So that's what this is about! But torture? C'mon Disney...
