Day Ten: Discuss My First Love and First Kiss
Regarding my first kiss, I don't remember it. Liar, you're probably thinking. But it's true. Obviously it wasn't that great or that special. It was probably playing truth or dare, something banal like that. It definitely wasn't with a crush because I know I would remember that.
I met my hubby when I was 17 so suffice to say I didn't have a first love before him. Before that I dated someone in high school for two years, which in teenage years is like 20 years but I think you might agree that high school "love" isn't really love. It's infatuation or lust or the sheer delight that someone likes you more than a friend. That you're considered pretty enough or good enough or whatever. But it's not honest to goodness love.
In my religious studies courses I've learned a little bit of ancient Greek because that's the language of the New Testament. Three of the words we learned through the gospels, letters and books were philia, eros and agape.
Philia refers to brotherly love or the kind of love you find in friendship. It's love in the general, non-passionate sense. For example, philosophy = philo (love) + sophy (wisdom) = love of wisdom. I don't know any people who are madly passionate about philosophy! It's a "I-love-history" or "I-love-math" kind of love.
Eros is something that most people are probably familiar with or have heard of. The word 'erotic' takes it's meaning from eros. It speaks of a passionate love, sexual or sensual desire. It means more than a friendship kind of love.

So if I had to choose which love my high school beau and I had, it would have to be eros. The love that my hubby and I developed, however, is a mix of all three. It's the kind of love that takes years to create. He's my best friend, my lover and my one true love.
