Interview Part 2

Let this be a lesson to me in judging someone before I've even met them.

The 19 year old sitter -- let's call her Lulu -- arrived last night promptly at 6:30pm. She was confident and peppy, two things I'll never be. As soon as she sat on the couch, Jr walked over to her and babbled to her.

Huh.

Aren't kids supposed to be like dogs? They can sense whether a person is good?

Lulu then gave us her CV and I was stunned to see she had traveled to South Africa last year and volunteered in an orphanage for a month.

Well now I felt just plain guilty. I had assumed that because of her age she would be slightly immature. God was obviously talking to me.

That being said, the difference between her and NB was evident. NB was much more reserved and meticulous about asking questions. When hubby and I tried to fill Lulu in before she could ask the questions we thought she would ask, she looked us like, Yeah, okay... I would have figured this all out. I'm not an idiot.

On the one hand, I liked NB's attention to detail and the desire to know every little thing about Jr and her routine. On the other hand, I appreciated Lulu's confidence. I sensed she would never be the type of sitter to call us for a crying fit or whatever else Jr threw at her; she would simply handle whatever happened.

They both had desirable qualities and they both made us feel comfortable about leaving our daughter with them.

So what to do?

Keep them both of course!

It would have been nice to have had a back-up with our previous sitter. Now we know we have to reliable sitters. NB is up first tonight so hubby and I can attend our church meeting. Lulu may be coming on Friday -- hubby surprised me by asking her yesterday -- so we can go see The Avengers.

The interviewing process went better than expected but I think it ended nicely because we decided to keep them both. If we had had to tell one of them we didn't need them, I think it would have left a bad taste in my mouth.
