Fabulousness

I don't know about all of you, but I had a fabulous weekend. A lot of that I owe to my parents for taking Jr for a sleepover. It was hubby's Mother's Day gift to me! He said it was his plan to ask his mom this time, since Jr has already stayed with my parents before, but unfortunately, her Teta (grandma) is still getting over a terrible bronchitis. Anyhow, as much as I love my monster, it was wonderful having the weekend to ourselves.

If you can believe it, my parents took all of their grandchildren (except Jelly Bean who is in Boston--next time Jelly Bean!!) for a sleepover together. That's an eight year old, a six year old, a four year old, a soon-to-be two year old and Jr, the one year old. Yeah, I think my parents are crazy too.

When I dropped Jr off my parents had taken out play dishes for the kids to play with outside. It has to be outside, you see, because they play with real water and it can get rather wet. I placed Jr at the table with the rest of the cousins and my heart ached for her just a little because she can't walk yet and she's not too sturdy on her feet and I could just imagine one of the cousins accidentally bumping into her and down she would go.

But according to my parents, everyone had a great time. The first time Jr got wet she looked around, probably wondering if this was okay. When she saw that no one was freaking out, she decided this good fun and jumped right in.

While Jr was having fun with her cousins, hubby and I were hosting a BBQ for our friend's birthday. We had a really good time and we think everyone else did too. The weather cooperated so we were able to sit outside for quite a bit. The food was delicious but the company was especially enjoyable.

After everyone left hubby and I stayed up until 1am -- WOO HOO! The first time in I don't know how long that we stayed up late because we wanted to and we actually had the energy.

The next day when hubby and I saw Jr it was like she was a new baby -- no, wait, this wasn't a baby anymore! It's amazing what one weekend with your big cousins will do! She is much more confident now about walking around the furniture. She will now sit down by herself if she's standing up against something instead of whining and crying until I go over and help her down. It's great. I don't think hubby and I were holding her back from taking risks but I think she just didn't see the payoff until she saw her cousins running around and she wanted to keep up. Or else my parents were busy with someone else and they couldn't simply drop everything to get her. Unfortunately for me, it's just me and her and if it's a contest to see who can make the bigger fuss, she always wins. It's hard to ignore her when she's screaming and choking (on purpose) right in front of you...and she's been doing it ALL DAY.

In any case, I had a great weekend and I was sorry to see it go. Happily it is a long weekend coming up (Happy Queen Victoria Day!) so I am very much looking forward to having an extra day with hubby.

Happy Monday!
