Alien Baby

Today was a good day. Jr and I visited with M and Little Monster. I think everyone needed it, all the way around. It was great to get out of the house and for Jr to have someone to play with. Well, actually Jr is something of a bully. Doesn't like to share, doesn't like to see Little Monster playing with anything and doesn't like it when Little Monster even touches her. Jr will yell at her even though Little Monster is almost twice her size and could take out her with a good push or punch.

Where did this alien baby come from??

I swear, if Jr hadn't been with us from the moment she was born until the moment we left the hospital, I would think someone switched babies. How is it that two calm, low-key people produced such a high strung and moody kid? But I think hubby and I are slowly accepting the fact that she's our daughter and that those traits are indeed from us. We've simply managed over time to keep our annoyance, our temper tantrums, our crying, our "people-drive-us-crazy", our whatever under wraps. We've soothed the inner beast...or at least put a muzzle on it. Just because you have issues doesn't mean you get to take it out on the general populace. Poor Jr has a long way to go, I'm afraid.

The other day she was playing with a balloon and throwing it down as if it was a huge rock that she wanted to crush on someone's head. She grunted and yelled and contorted her face. Like I said, what's with the intensity? It's a balloon, baby girl, a balloon!

There's also her anger issue vis-a-vis Tickle Me Elmo. I found him at a garage sale for $5. Perfect, right? Huge fan of Elmo and he actually moves! Not so much. Whenever I "tickle" Elmo, she grabs him and tries to hold him down, as if to say, It's okay, Elmo, don't freak out! She can't, of course, which makes her so upset she shrieks and thrusts Elmo at me. Make him stop! Make him stop! Cruel parent that I am, I filmed her because I thought it was hilarious. That is until today when she had a meltdown and wouldn't stop crying. So no more having a laugh at Jr's expense...at least with Tickle Me Elmo.

Wishing you all a great weekend and for you Canadians out there, a great LONG weekend! Woot!
