You Mean...I Didn't Get an 'A'?

My sister, Malt_Soda, sent me this yesterday:

How I wish I could have written something like this to any one of my students when I was a TA! I love that the professor or TA was brutally honest but still clever and funny. You would think that students would be honest with themselves when they get a bad grade... I mean, a really bad grade. We're talking 50% or lower bad. Do you really think you deserved an 'A'? Really? That's what kills me. Everyone wants an 'A'. Many students think if they don't get an 'A' or higher, their mark is bad. Not everyone can get an 'A'. Some work is of higher caliber than others. That doesn't mean your grade is worthless or that you performed terribly. That being said, most of the time, when I received a poor mark, I knew it was because I didn't put the effort in. I fully deserved it. But I've had students contact me asking me 'why' when all they submitted was a one-page, double-spaced answer when we asked for a three-page, single-spaced answer! I've had students blame their grade on me, on the professor, on other students! TAKE RESPONSIBILITY PEOPLE!
