Yes! A date night! We hired a babysitter through a website. Yup, it's no longer your next door neighbor's kids anymore! We do have family but it's preferable to have someone come to our house and that doesn't necessarily work all the time. I read about Nanny Services in an article in The Gazette last year, before Jr. was even born. It's kind of like a dating service. You plug in what you're looking for: someone who lives within a 30 km radius of our home, someone who specializes in babies and infants, a non-smoker, someone over the age of 18, someone not too expensive, someone available Wednesday evenings for our church meetings and weekends. Ta-da! Here are your list of candidates. Now email them and see who emails you back! Last night was our first experience with our sitter and it went very well. It was a bit awkward but I'm guessing that goes away over time. I tried to make some jokes when we came home but they fell flat. I guess it's like paying anyone for their services... they don't want or need you to make small talk or jokes. They just want you to pay them so they can go home!
Our date night was a movie. We went to see Breaking Dawn with AD and AK. I can hear some of you groaning (I know my sister did when I told her at Aqua Stroller!). But hubby and I both read the books and have watched the other movies. I wouldn't say we're Twihards but we're fans. We decided to go on a Monday night because a) it was one of the evenings our sitter was free and b) we figured the theater would be empty. Our theater was actually pretty empty but of course, we sat right in front of two women who wouldn't shut up. (Talk about needing patience!) They kept whispering and laughing and one of them had this loud, obnoxious laugh. AD turned around and asked them to be quiet and I asked them to move seats. They stopped talking after that but I'm sure they were doing everything they could to annoy us otherwise: hitting my seat, opening up scrunchy bags of candy, getting up to go outside. I don't get it. Why would you pay money NOT to watch the film? This is why hubby and I don't go to the movies very much anymore, even before Jr. was born. Somehow we always manage to sit near someone like that.
Anyhow, despite those women, we enjoyed the movie. It really was a money grab (at least I think so, hubby may disagree) because the filmmakers split the last book into two movies. So this first part was stretched out to make an entire movie. Some parts were completely unnecessary. Nevertheless, I'm looking forward to the last movie when all the real action happens!

I still can't believe those two women. This is exactly the type of situation that makes you want to rent movies and watch them at home.
ReplyDeleteThat being said, I'm actually looking forward to Watching Breaking Dawn Part2!
