Day 21 of the 30 Day Writing Challenge
Day Twenty-One: One of My Favorite Shows
Just one?! You'll know if you've been reading my blog religiously (oh I know you have!) that I'm into the Golden Girls right now. But at one time I was very much into Buffy the Vampire Slayer and its spin-off, Angel. Hubby and I bought both of the series on DVD and I've lost county how many times we've watched them.
But if I had to choose just ONE show, I think it would have to be Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman.
I don't even remember when or how I started watching this show. It's described as the "trials and adventures of a female doctor in a small wild west town." Jane Seymour plays Michaela Quinn, a woman from a well-to-do family in Boston who becomes a doctor. Thanks to her father, who is a respected doctor himself, she is able to practice medicine despite the disapproval of her mother and the general population. But when her father dies and her patients disappear, she decides to answer an advertisement for a doctor in the "wild west", Colorado Springs. Once there, however, the townspeople reject her as well, because they thought Michael A. Quinn responded, not Michaela Quinn. It takes a good long while before they accept her but she finds a friend in Sully, a rugged and handsome "mountain man" who has close ties with the local Cheyenne. She is also unexpectedly asked to raise three orphan children.
As I'm writing this I realize I could go on and on and on but you get the picture. I'm not sure why I like it so much. Hubby is not a fan. I tried to get him to watch a few episodes but that's about it. I like Jane Seymour, I like that it takes place in the past, I like that there's no nudity or sex (blatant, anyway) and the story between Michaela (or Dr. Mike as the townsfolk call her) and Sully (first name Byron but he goes by just Sully) is so romantic. I love it. Anyhow, the show is just good and wholesome but not too wholesome that it's unbelievable.
Hubby bought me the DVDs when they came out, bless him. I seem to be the only person in the world who likes Dr. Quinn, because they were ridiculously expensive. But I think I've watched them enough to have made them worth it.
