Day Fourteen: My Earliest Memory

Day 14 of the 30 Day Writing Challenge

Day Fourteen: My Earliest Memory

I happened to mention this tidbit in my 30-interesting-facts-about-me post. It was my grandpa's funeral. I don't know the exact year but I think I was three or four years old. There's not much to share because it's very hazy to me and it's really more of a glimpse than an actual memory. I remember standing on a pew (which goes to show you how young I was because my parents would never let me stand on the bench as far as I can remember) and I know that someone was on either side of me but I don't recall who it was. Mom most probably. I was looking toward the back of the church or funeral home and I was watching my aunt, who is sadly no longer with us, and her daughter, my cousin. They were crying and sniffling into crumpled up tissues. I think my aunt was wearing blue and her hair was permed with very tight curls à la 80s.
I'm not 100% sure that this is my earliest memory but it must be. Because of all the things I can remember about my childhood, this one is the least clear and the shortest. I can't remember what I was thinking or who else was there. It feels sometimes like it must have been a dream.
