It's funny that there are things that make you so happy but some of those things you're embarrassed to tell people about. Is it because we're not "supposed" to like XYZ? Is it because no one else does so we're different, standing out black among the white sheep? Or does it solely depend on what the pleasure is and who you are? Like if you're a brain surgeon and you like something mindless like The Bachelor (my apologies to Bachelor fans out there, no disrespect!)
I have had and still have a few guilty pleasures. One of them at one time was Ace of Base. You know... "I saw the sign and it opened up my eyes I saw the sign!" (Who knew they're still touring and making music!?)I don't know why it was uncool to like them. I just remember one of my friends making fun of a girl in class who liked them and I went along with it because I didn't want to be made fun of next! When I think about it now it makes me sad that I wasn't brave enough to stand up for that other girl and for myself. This is what I like, so shove it! (Or something more clever that I can't think of right now.)
I also really liked the reality show 50 Cent: The Money and the Power. I don't even like his music and yet week after week I watched his show! I can't explain, can't defend it. I just liked it. Two "camps" working toward 50 Cent's money to start their own company -- thrilling! Maybe it was Fiddy's tough attitude. Maybe it was the colorful characters. He once called this one girl a poor man's L'il Kim! Everyone was like "Oh, burn!!!" I guess it was if you want to look like L'il Kim. But I digress...
Anywho, my new guilty pleasure is watching The Golden Girls on Deja View! I remember this being on TV when I was little and it didn't interest me for obvious reasons. I mean, what kid wants to watch four retirees, one of whom is constantly making sexual references which I wouldn't understand? So now I get the jokes. Even then, you might ask, why?? I don't know. I just like it! There's nothing better these days than sitting down to watch some TV and stumbling upon some Golden Girls!
Thank you for being a friend, Golden Girls! Get it? Like the theme song? :)
Here's to guilty pleasures!

Gotta admit, I am loving the Golden Girls on Deja Vu too :)
ReplyDeleteI feel the same way! I try to remember what I read
ReplyDeleteon the Happiness Project: “You can choose what you do, but you can’t choose what you like to do.”
My guilty pleasure is reading self-help books! Shh, don't tell anyone!
